About "Moss whispers"

by Ben De Winter

About the artwork

This photograph captures an intimate moment in the heart of a damp, living forest, where a fallen tree surrenders to nature's embrace. The trunk and branches are completely covered in a lush carpet of moss, creeping across the weathered wood in various shades of green. The soft, diffuse lighting accentuates the rich textures and brings a serene, almost sacred atmosphere to the image.

The tree does not just lie; its branches twist like outstretched arms, as if it still wants to cling to the life around it. Around him are other trees, their trunks likewise adorned with moss and lichen, as silent witnesses to the constant cycle of life, decay and rebirth. The forest floor is littered with fallen leaves, young shoots and damp earth, adding to the sense of an ecosystem in full transformation.

A light mist in the background adds a dreamy dimension, making it seem as if time flows more slowly here. This composition is not only a visual study of texture and colour, but also a poetic reflection on nature's resilience. Even in decay, new life emerges - a quiet, green triumph of time.
