About "Naked in Factory"

by The Nudes Gallery

About the artwork

In the painting, a naked young woman takes centre stage in an abandoned, dilapidated factory hall. She stands upright, with a relaxed but confident posture, her feet firmly on the cold concrete floor. Her skin is soft and light, almost shiny in the bright daylight that falls in through the tall windows on one side of the hall.

The fragility of her nakedness is not hidden, but neither is it emphasised - rather, it seems natural, as if she is in complete harmony with the desolate space around her.

Behind her stands an old industrial machine, rusty, like a relic from an era of labour and production. Its metal parts are covered in dust and crusts of oxidation. The contrasts are strong: the young, living woman against the dead steel; the round shapes of her body against the straight lines and angles of the machine and the building.

The tall windows are fogged with dirt and dust. Yet the light entering is soft and almost sacred, as if it makes the space temporarily sacred. The painting evokes a sense of stillness, of time seeming to stand still for a moment.
