This image shows a post box that still fulfils its original function, but has been scarred by the ravages of time and the indifference of its surroundings. The bright red metal of the postbox stands out against the bleak industrial background, where the graffiti mark of a half-placed stripe seems to embellish the postbox, but at the same time distracts from its purpose. The light snow along the ground and the grey sky above reinforced the desolate, disinterested atmosphere of this mundane object.
The contrasts between the bright, vibrant colour of the postbox and the drab industrial surroundings create an interesting visual tension. This work raises questions about modern communication, changes in urban spaces and how ordinary objects in an urban environment can turn into symbols of neglect.
This artwork would fit perfectly in a space that appreciates the raw beauty of the urban landscape and is interested in the city's influences on everyday objects we normally overlook.
