Richard III (also Richard of Gloucester) (Fotheringhay, 2 October 1452 - Market Bosworth, 22 August 1485) was king of England from 1483 to 1485. He was the fourth and youngest son of Richard of York and Cecily Neville. Richard goes down in history as the savage who seized the English throne by murdering the two young sons of his late brother Edward IV.
All sorts of crimes, including those where there was demonstrable evidence that he had nothing to do with them, were blamed on Richard. Although it was again possible to investigate the truth after the extinction of the House of Tudor, Richard was never cleared of suspicion and his image remained damaged.
Nicolai Abraham Abildgaard (Copenhagen, Denmark, 11 September 1743 - Frederiksdal, 4 June 1809) was a Danish painter, architect, sculptor and draughtsman of the 18th century. In 1778, he was appointed professor at the Copenhagen Academy of Art and royal history painter.
