The aurora is a phenomenon of light in the Earth's atmosphere. It is often a light glow or consists of moving arcs, rays or curtains of light; very rarely it is even flaming. Sometimes there is an arc on the northern horizon from which the light beams shoot up like searchlights.
The aurora is especially visible at high geographical latitudes. One speaks therefore of northern lights (aurora borealis).
