When making collages I merely shift the context of the visual elements.
It's a simple but very effective way to disrupt our viewing patterns. For me, seeing the familiar in an unfamiliar way is a real pleasure.
I use old photographs because they have a similar property. They depict what once was reality, but as time went by it became a window to a distant world.
Despite the distance between the depicted reality and the reality of the viewer, the photo retains its credibility as an image of 'what once was real'.
