Anyone thinking of Zeeland will soon come across the story of water, in addition to sun, sea and beach. Storms and spring tides that rage and flood disasters that have left their mark through the centuries. Meanwhile, the Zeelanders curbed the water with the Delta Works, dominating the landscape shaped by the battle against the water.
Many of the drowned villages are no more than a memory or their remnants are underwater. The Plompe tower is one such remaining monument of turbulent times with stormy weather and fatal consequences. This church tower dominates the landscape of the Oosterschelde estuary and is the last remnant of the drowned village of Koudekerke which disappeared in the waves.
By using different techniques and combining them with perspective and composition, I create the own dynamics that are often recognisable in my photography work.
