The streetscape of Havana is characterized by its many old-timers driving around, parked or being tinkered with. This tinkering is regularly necessary because most of these cars date from the fifties of the last century! Because of America's trade embargo, nothing was allowed to be imported to force Cuba to renounce communism. That is why many of these cars still drive around, mostly as taxis.
