Here lies a small Nordic village, nestling in a bay in the Swedish archipelago. The air is pure, the water still, and nature breathes softly around every house. Above, the sky foretells the coming storm, but a calm settles in, an inner tranquillity that envelops the soul. This landscape is not just a place; it's a feeling. A moment of serenity before the storm, an intimate resonance captured in colour and light.
This painting is inspired by my memories of all the years I've spent in Sweden, of how the sea shapes those who live there and how the landscape adapts to the sea. Over the years, I've also often made connections with my native Normandy or, further west, Brittany.
It's not surprising when you consider that it was the Norse Vikings who settled in Normandy and left behind them, for example, the architectural traditions of half-timbered houses.
