About "Opel Rekord E1"

by aRi F. Huber

About the artwork

he Opel Rekord E1 was produced from 1977 to 1982 and was the fourth generation of the Opel Rekord series. The car was offered as a saloon, estate and coupé and was particularly known for its reliability and comfort.

The Rekord E1 was developed by Opel to continue the success of its predecessor, the Opel Rekord D, and to incorporate modernised technologies and safety features. The car was equipped with various petrol engines, including a 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine with an output of up to 115 hp.

However, the Opel Rekord E1 could be seen in several films and television series, including German productions such as "Die Konsequenz" by Wolfgang Petersen from 1977 and "Bis zur bitteren Neige" by Niklaus Schilling from 1984, and very often in the leading role in Polizeiruf 110, Sonderdezernat K1, Tatort Krimis, Der Fahnder or Schwarz Rot Gold. The car was often used to symbolise the German car industry and the lifestyle of the 70s and 80s. In total, it was used over 700 times in films and television series.

The Opel Rekord E1 was created in the early 1970s by designer Chuck Jordan. Jordan was known for his innovative and contemporary designs that were both modern and functional. The Opel Rekord E1 was a further development of the previous models and was characterised by its striking and dynamic exterior. Thanks to its timeless design and reliable performance, the Opel Rekord E1 became a popular model and characterised the image of the Opel brand in the 1970s, selling 967,064 units.
