A medieval battlefield scene in action with a knight in armour and sword in hand. An Orange-faced soldier with an orange plume on his helmet carries out a charge with cavalry on horseback. In this picture, the speed and dynamism of the battlefield is easy to see and there seems to be movement in the image. The gleaming armour sparkles in the sunlight and the incoming sidelight gives a Rembrandt-like light. A historical image with a cinematic character and of a Dutch battlefield recreated by Cosplay players from around the world.
The Battle of Grolle is a recurring historical event that re-enacts the Siege of Grol by Frederick Henry (Prince of Orange) on behalf of the Republic of the Seven United Netherlands. Every two years, Groenlo goes back in time almost 400 years to the year 1627.
As many as 1,500 re-enactors come together to re-enact this historic battle in the Netherlands' patriotic history. For three days, they will keep as close as possible to the living conditions of the time. They are completely devoid of electricity or other modern aids and eat food based on old-fashioned ingredients and prepared on open fires.
For a moment, you imagine yourself back in the years of the 80-year war, which passes by like a movie this day. Horses gallop across the field, cannons roar, muskets are fired and soldiers go to war
