Several areas of the Monte Palace Tropical Gardens on the island of Madeira, Portugal, are laid out as oriental gardens. These areas follow themes and there are two sections with red handrails and pagodas reminiscent of a Japanese style. The gardens belong to a beautiful palace that was a famous hotel in the 18th Century but is now a museum with the gardens open to the public. This photoart image shows a section of the garden that has a very definite Japanese feel, with a bright red pagoda and Chinese Foo Dogs also known as guardian lions on either side of the entrance.
