It had been snowing. Evening in Naaldwijk. Around the Oude Kerk you will find a wonderful, wonderfully beautiful, piece of history. Architecture, as applied in a very distant past, has been preserved there. Materials, construction methods, dimensions, it takes you to a beautiful piece of history. The Old Church, for example, was built around 1350. The Heilige Geesthofje dates from the 17th century. You will find this beautiful courtyard (highly recommended) when you turn right at the end of Kerklaan, pictured. One of the next side streets will take you to this courtyard. The alley in the photo is covered in snow. No one present, peace and quiet all around. A real winter evening. This picture exudes an atmosphere that can easily be compared to the style and mood that Charles Dickens managed to describe so beautifully in his books. At the end, behind the fence, you can see part of the Old Church with its beautiful windows.
I chose a slightly lower viewpoint when I took the picture. This gives a certain complement to the atmosphere described above. Cosy, relaxed, longing for peace and quiet, just nothing at all....
Naaldwijk, the beautiful old centre. I love taking photos there. In every season, at every moment of the day. Grateful for what has been preserved. Homage to the many generations before us, hopefully we will also leave something behind for the generations after us....
