Right in the centre of Paramaribo, behind the presidential palace, lies a stately and ancient park: the Palmengarten. Under the tall king palms you will find plenty of shade and you can take a lovely stroll. The location of the Palmengarten behind the presidential palace is no coincidence: the palace and the garden used to belong together. The more than 300-year-old palms are planted quite closely together and you will find striking long rows of narrow, tall trunks (up to 25 metres!). Tropical birds flutter among the palm fronds, and there even lives a group of capuchin monkeys.
