The medieval Muiderslot in the North Holland town of Muiden is 1 of the most famous castles or moated castles in the Netherlands and is located on the river Vecht. It was built around 1285, and restored from 1370 and has been a Rijksmuseum since 1878. The castle has a moat and a drawbridge, 5 towers, battlements and loopholes. Around it are beautiful gardens and in the courtyard a beautiful well. One of the most famous former residents of Muiderslot is poet and playwright Pieter Corneliszoon Hooft, better known as P.C. Hooft. Muiderslot and the fortress around it are owned by the state and is now a national museum. I took the photo on a summer afternoon outside the Muiderslot moat where you have a nice overview of the castle with a beautiful Dutch cloudy sky.
