The Hudson Motor Car Company built Hudson and a number of other makes of automobiles in Detroit, Michigan, from 1909 to 1957.
The name "Hudson" comes from Mr. J.L. Hudson, department store entrepreneur and founder of the Hudson department store, who had a necessary capital at his disposal. One of the most important persons of the early company was Roy Chapin Sr, a young executive who had worked with Ransom E. Olds (this Chapin's son, Roy Jr, was later to become president of Hudson-Nash's offspring American Motors Corp. in the 1960s).
