About the artwork

Realistic painting in acrylic with a portrait of the Italian painter Pasquale Celommi with his painting "Il Ciabattino", painted by the artist Paul Meijering - the original painting is 90 x 90 cm and available for sale.

Pasquale Celommi (Montepagano, January 6, 1851 - Roseto degli Abruzzi, August 9, 1928) was an Italian painter.

Born on January 6, 1851 in Montepagano, a hamlet of Roseto degli Abruzzi. He was noticed when he was only thirteen years old by Camillo Mezzopreti, a wealthy local collector and amateur painter who was his first teacher and, above all, the financier of his early studies.
In 1873 he won the competition of the artistic pensioner organized by the provincial government of Teramo, which allowed him to attend the Free School of the Nude established at the Academy of Fine Arts in Florence, where he had as his teacher Antonio Ciseri. In Florence, on August 18, 1880, he married seventeen-year-old Giuseppina Giusti (granddaughter of the poet Giuseppe Giusti) with whom he had 11 children. Shortly after the birth of his eldest son Raphael, in 1881, because of the child's precarious health, he returned to Roseto.

From 1900, in addition to the help of his son Raffaello Celommi, the artist worked continuously for the gallery of the D'Atri brothers in Rome and for some foreign galleries: the Winterstein in Vienna and the Bekerans galleries in Munich and Berlin.

Pasquale Celommi died in Roseto on August 9, 1928, from the effects of nephritis.
