This work was created while walking through the centre of Rotterdam. The photo was taken from a low vantage point upwards, merging tall buildings and an undulating canopy into one powerful image. The use of a wide-angle lens makes the special quality of this architectural connection stand out even more.
With its rhythmic planes, the canopy forms a new relationship with the surrounding buildings. Depending on where you stand as a viewer, the interplay of lines, shapes and surfaces changes. This alienating composition raises questions: what am I actually seeing, and what meaning do the elements together carry?
The work exudes a worldly and free feeling. It shows that even in places where you might not expect it, surprisingly beautiful images can arise-if you look with a different perspective.
