A group of men, thieves, sit between the forest and the water of the sea. Between them is a donkey with another man in the back, a thief who is smoking. The green of the trees, brown of the ground and blue of the water and sky make it a spectacle of colours.
If the title of the piece is inspired by the fable of La Fontaine, the subject is based on The Metamorphoses of Apuleius. The scene shows the moment when Lucio, transformed into a donkey, is freed by his kidnappers through the intervention of Fotis' friend. Fotis is a young girl who during the events of the story tries to bring the boy back to his human form. The scene takes place in a landscape on a cliff overlooking the sea: the donkey stands alone in the middle. On the left, several men are seen fighting.
