About ‘Peričnik Waterfall | Behind the waterfall in Slovenia’ by Laura Dijkslag

I took this photograph at the impressive Peričnik Waterfall, located in Triglav National Park in Slovenia. What makes this waterfall so special is that you can actually walk behind it. I wanted to capture that perspective: the cascading water in the foreground and the rugged mountain landscape behind it.

The Peričnik waterfall is located in the Vrata Valley, at the foot of the Triglav massif in the Julian Alps. The water falls dozens of metres and splashes on the rocks, while the path along the wall gives you a unique view of the valley. While taking photographs, you could constantly feel the fine mist in the air and hear the powerful roar of the water.

In this composition, I deliberately chose depth: the rock face above you, the waterfall as a vertical line in the image and the green forest and mountains in the background. The combination of flowing water, moss-covered stones and the Slovenian mountain landscape makes this, for me, a typical example of nature photography in Slovenia.

This photo not only shows the Peričnik waterfall, but also conveys a sense of adventure. A place where nature, power and tranquillity come together in the heart of the Julian Alps.
