The painting shows the ancient Egyptian pharaoh Sethos I. He lived at the time of the New Kingdom around 1323 to 1379 BC in the 19th dynasty. His father was Ramses II, who is better known today.
I myself love Ancient Egypt and have studied it for many years, both historically and artistically. The ancient Egyptians had a huge repertoire of depictions in pictures and hieroglyphic writing. Their tomb paintings are famous for this.
The depiction of Sethos I in the painting is authentically taken from a scene in a tomb painting. However, the overlays on the real scene are not as pronounced; but this was intentional to express the decay of these paintings unless they were protected. Two name cartouches can be seen on the left of the painting, two names of the pharaoh from his otherwise 5-part royal titulature. The throne name: men maat re (= the world order of Re is constant) and the proper name: seth mery en ptah (= Seth, beloved of Ptah).
The painting is painted with artist acrylic colours on a 3 cm wide stretcher frame. A beautiful motif for fans of ancient Egypt.
