With a structure like Scheveningen's Pier, as a photographer from The Hague you naturally have a very rewarding subject right next door.
Several times a season, it's walking, sitting and waiting for the right shot. Occasionally walking back and forth for the right position. You would think that this shot was made that way, and it was. However, this shot was the tigth time. The tight silhouette, the colour, the sea, the sky, the position of the hidden sun felt just right with this one. The wisp of cloud at the top with a small plume below it makes it seem as if the sun is literally warming up the Pier. The complete structure as it stands in the sea almost feels animalistic.
Unconsciously, this is becoming a time document, as the Pier will most probably be rebuilt soon, with this tower disappearing. Alas, but fortunately we still have the photos's.
"It's all about composition" For me, it's not about the subject or how complex it is. You can make up the story to go with it. It's much more interesting from which angle you look at it.
