Pink Stars Artwork: Girl Riding a Dolphin with Confidence by Surreal Media

The first thing I notice is the serenity on the face of the girl sitting high on the back of an enormous, shimmering dolphin, her hands firmly gripping the reins as she gazes confidently ahead, as if flying through the starry sky were the most natural thing in the world to her. The dolphin itself is covered in thousands of tiny points of light, silvery-white at the head and fading into a soft pink towards the tail, and that transition gives the animal an enchanting quality, almost as if it were made of stardust. Beneath them lies a dark blue sea that shimmers just as much as the dolphin, and above them stretches a sky full of twinkling stars, some large and bright, others like tiny specks of light in the distance. I thought of that feeling children sometimes have just before going to sleep, when their imagination takes over and everything seems possible, and of how lovely it is to feel completely safe and free at the same time. This translates into an atmosphere that feels both empowering and tender: the girl charts her own course, confident and calm, whilst the soft colours and the fairy-tale dolphin keep the whole scene warm and comforting. It is a digital artwork, composed as a surrealist collage in which a shimmering texture and a starry sky come together to form a single dreamlike scene. In a child’s bedroom, above the bed or next to the reading chair, this piece can foster precisely that sense of feeling safe to dream – a reminder of evenings filled with imagination and the courage to trust in the unknown.
