Polar ice is melting

by Myrte F. Banen

There’s still a chilly atmosphere, with the pale sun shining across the water and the icebergs melting away and turning into sharp peaks. The polar bear is struggling. Only a shadow of its former self remains. On the left, a polar bear walks behind the translucent ice rocks, whilst on the right one swims in the water, with only its head visible above the surface. I created this for the Winter Challenge competition and had to stick to the themes of a wintry atmosphere and reflection; for the latter, I applied silver paint to the ice rocks in the foreground. It gives me a cool feeling because of the colours and the story. The polar ice will disappear, and the polar bear is in distress and will become extinct. It was created at just the right time. It originated entirely in my mind and is based on atmosphere and emotion. People who care about nature, animals, climate change and who appreciate the colours blue, white and silver will find this a fine piece of work.
