Police Car_HMS:A police car or police car is an automobile used as a police vehicle. Since the first police car was used by the Akron Police in the state of Ohio in 1899, these vehicles have been used, among other things, to quickly bring police officers to the scene of an incident, transport suspects, or patrol suspects.
A police car is often equipped with a siren or multi-tone horn and flashing lights, and is sprayed in a recognizable striking pattern. The painting, sound of the siren and the configuration and colour of the flashing lights differ per region. Officers in plainclothes or undercover usually drive a police car without these identification marks, but may place a flashing light with a suction cup or magnet on the roof, or have hidden lights in the grille.
Many police cars are adapted to specialized tasks. For example, a patrol car is often slower than a vehicle used by traffic police to chase hard-drivers, for example. Some police forces do not distinguish between different tasks, and use a car that is a compromise. Some vehicles have adapted bumpers to push traffic off the road.
