Porsche 64 Prototype car. The Porsche 64 is considered as the first Porsche car and the predecessor of the later 356 production car.
The Porsche 64 Prototype, also known as the Type 64, is the first car to bear the Porsche name. Built in 1939, it was designed by Ferdinand Porsche and represents the foundation of Porsche’s long legacy in sports car engineering. The Type 64 was based on the Volkswagen Beetle, however, it was built as a streamlined, lightweight racing car meant for high-speed endurance runs. The Type 64 became the basis for the Porsche 356, the company’s first official production car.
