This is the village of Porto Moniz at the far northwestern tip of Madeira. What I love about this photo is that you can see the harmony of man and nature beautifully, as this village is built on a clearly visible lava flow that long ago flowed into the sea between the mountain peaks. Indeed, Madeira was once an active volcano. The conditions to take this photo were not easy, the sea was rough and the wind was strong. Fortunately, just at the right moment, the sun broke through the clouds to take this photo.

I am a passionate hobby photographer and travel enthusiast from Nijmegen, the Netherlands, mainly specialised in landscape and nature photography, but occasionally I also try to shoot some urban photos. I love grand panoramas and extraordinary landscapes, where I also like to incorporate a human landscape element into my photos, such as a remote village or a beautiful road.
