Portrait of Eduard Wallis, Johannes Cornelisz. Verspronck, 1652 oil on panel, h 97cm × w 75cm Johannes Verspronck and Frans Hals worked as portrait painters in Haarlem at about the same time. But greater differences in painting style are hard to imagine! Verspronck executed his canvases smooth and clean and spent a lot of time on details. Hals painted much more sketchily, just indicating things. Eduard Wallis, a wealthy cloth merchant, and his wife chose Verspronck in any case.
