Portrait of Maria van Strijp, Johannes Cornelisz. Verspronck, 1652 oil on panel, h 97cm × w 75cm.
Verspronck painted not only Maria van Strijp and her husband, but also her mother and brother-in-law. As usual, he usually depicted his patrons standing. Here, however, he has Maria sitting sideways on a chair, with the back facing us. He had copied this playful motif from portraits by Frans Hals.
