This work shows a close-up of the head of a Plains Zebra (Equus quagga). This portrait shows only the head. The rest of the body is lost in the bodies of the other Zebras in the herd. The Zebra is alert with ears pricked up, looking in the direction of the camera and seemingly seeking contact with the photographer. Perhaps he is wondering what he is doing here in this herd with a hallucinatory jumble of stripes.
I took the picture in northern Namibia. Photographically, Zebras with their black and white stripes naturally invite close-up shots. I therefore spent a long time looking for a photo like this. Out of more than 100 different photos I took, this is one of the more successful ones, which I therefore look back on with great pleasure.
