In an 18th-century stable near Heerlen, the light catches the head of a cow curiously peering through rusty bars. Here, where a dozen animals live together, the nearly eighty-year-old farmer still works daily with dedication among his ladies. The image captures the tension between transience and perseverance: the weathered surroundings, the harsh light, and the quiet presence of the cow together form a portrait of a small and vanishing farming life.
