The fallow deer is larger than a roe and smaller than a red deer. Head to torso length is 130 to 170 centimetres and height at the withers is 85 to 110 centimetres. Fallow deer can weigh 45 to 100 kilograms, in very rare cases up to 130 kilograms. The tail is quite long: 16 to 19 centimetres. The male (called a stag or hoe - derived from schaufler, German hunting jargon -, after the shape of the antlers of adult animals) is generally heavier than the female (called a doe).
