Beautiful African Fritillary (Protogoniomorpha parhassus) feeds on nectar from the white flowers of a coffee plant in the garden of a lodge in Arusha in Tanzania in East Africa. It is rainy season and the butterfly is therefore a little greenish in colour. In the dry season, it is much whiter. Notable are the pair of eyes on the wings.
The African Fritillary is a large butterfly with a wingspan of about 8 cm that still looks very fragile. This specimen is already quite damaged.
