About ‘Portrait of the Aster’ by Foto Studio Labie

This beautiful Aster is one of the most popular autumn flowers in the Netherlands.

The portrait shown here was created by the famous painter Vincent van Gogh in 1886. He was fascinated by the colours and shapes of this flower, which symbolises love, happiness and hope.

Aster is native to North America, where Indians used it as medicine and as an offering to the gods. The name Aster comes from the Greek word for star, as the flower resembles a shining star in the sky.
