"Portrait of three Ball Thistles: Different stages of life" is a macro photo of three beautiful Bull Thistles from the garden. These three thistle bulbs differ not only in size. The stages the bulbs are in are also different. The largest bulb is in full bloom. If you zoom in on the photo, this is easy to see. Ornate lines of petals decorate this blue bulb. The middle bulb is in bloom only at the piece at the top. The underside is still "prickly". It looks as if this bulb is wearing some kind of wig. It will only take a little while and then this bulb will also be in full bloom!
The last, small bulb is still closed and looks "prickly". These three different stages they are in and the difference in size, make it look just like a family/family.
Because of the natural subject matter and the simplicity of the composition, this work exudes a tranquillity. The colours give the work something cool, but the image figuratively radiates something warm and loving.
Because of its simplicity and tranquillity, this picture can fit beautifully into a quiet interior. For example, in a bedroom, dining room, waiting room or simply the living room!
