About ‘Portrait of wild boar’ by Sam Mannaerts

This wild boar was photographed in one of the countless German forests. With a zoom lens I was able to get very close and make this close up portrait. There is still some snow on the snout.

The wild boar has a brush-like coat that is longer and darker in winter than in summer. In spring the winter bristles fall out and they get a shorter and lighter coat. They have a short and firm body and a flattened strong snout. The nose ends in a rooting disc. The hind legs are shorter than the front legs and adults have a tail that ends in a plume. Adult males are called keilers or bears and have two tusks, which are called by hunters " hackers &quot.
