Manageable
This oil painting 'Psyche & Amor - 24-05-23' is finally finished. Long overdue I must say. It took much more time than expected. Isn't it always like this? There's no undertaking you can't handle and then you realise you've bitten off more than you can handle. I thought I would quickly convert the original reference drawing to oil. For my admiration and why, I recommend clicking on that link and reading the story. So in terms of its execution in oil, I faced challenges from the start. Not least from a colour point of view and some.
Intense sunlight
My list of ambitions was huge. Above all, I wanted to depict intense sunlight. As far as I know, this has rarely, if ever, been done by artists. I mean, looking straight into the sun in broad daylight. Those painted sunsets you always see in yellow or orange. As a disciple of light, I was obliged to finally make my mark. Do that bright sun and see if the result would look plausible, maybe even majestic.
Young as I was when I started drawing and painting I started my professional art career at age 35 after ending a succesful carreer as a business lawyer. I kept on handling my brushes and pencils after childhood but never dreamed I could make a living out of art.
