The puffin is common along the coasts of Northern Europe. The bird is very popular because of its clownish appearance. They stay at sea from autumn onwards and in spring they come to the coasts to mate and breed. The nest usually consists of 1 egg, but sometimes 2. The nest is a hole in the ground, usually an old rabbit hole. They take turns fishing and their prey consists of small fish (sandeels are a favorite), crustaceans, shrimp and small lobster.
