In August, the heather is in full bloom at the Kalmthoutse Heide. It is worth walking there at sunrise on an early morning. There is often ground fog then, when the sun rises a little higher, then rises and is increasingly easy to observe. You can then see the layers in the landscape very well. The pine trees in the field stand out against the white low patches of fog. If you are lucky, the sky turns warm orange and the atmosphere is optimal.

Sometimes you can hear some geese twittering or some fly over and, with a lot of luck, you can also just spot a deer walking.
Even when the heather has finished blooming, it remains a beautiful area where you can walk for miles and enjoy.
