About ‘Purple surf.’ by Alies werk

This semi-abstract seascape depicts a coastal landscape composed of clean, horizontal layers of colour, with dynamic, purplish-red surf in the centre.
• Composition: The artwork is divided into distinct bands. The upper half consists of a serene, pale blue sky with subtle linear accents. Below this lies a narrow, dark blue horizon, a pale green layer of water, a foaming wave, and a wide beige sandy beach in the foreground.
• Use of colour: The composition is driven by the contrast between the calm, cool pastel blue and sandy tones and the powerful, saturated shades of violet, magenta and deep red at the water’s edge.
• Texture & Style: Whilst the sky and beach are rendered in a clean, minimalist style, the surf has an expressive, digital brush texture. The irregular V-shaped and angular strokes lend the breaking wave a palpable energy and depth.
• Atmosphere: A modern, stylised depiction of a beach that combines dreamlike tranquillity with a vibrant splash of colour at the boundary between land and sea.
