The common raccoon or North American raccoon (Procyon lotor) is a predator of the family of small bears (Procyonidae). The scientific name of the species was published as Ursus lotor by Carl Linnaeus in 1758.[2] The common raccoon is the most common raccoon species and it occurs in large numbers in North America. The species also occurs as an exotic species in Europe.
