Red Japanese Maple leaves on blue is an acrylic painting in portrait format painted by artist Karen Kaspar. Maple leaves in bright shades of orange and red dance across an abstract blue background. The inspiration for this painting came when I was watering my neighbour's flowers and I had the opportunity to take some reference photos of her beautiful Japanese maple trees for future paintings. Although the leaves were green in nature, I was in the mood for some warm yellow, orange and red autumn colours. A blue-green background enhances the contrasting warm colours of the leaves. I see the blue sky behind the maple leaves, but when I showed my husband the finished painting, he said he saw the leaves floating on aqua blue water in a pond or pool . What do you see? 320
