About ‘Red Lights – a photo collage’ by Götz Gringmuth-Dallmer Photography

Three red traffic lights, right in the heart of a city of over a million people. They tell you to stop, to pause for a moment; you can’t go any further here right now. But they also promise you that you’ll be on your way again soon.
Enjoy the blue sky whilst you can; tomorrow it may well be grey again.

“Red Lights” is an image from the series “viel.schichtig”. A photograph is transformed into a collage by layering this image multiple times on top of one another at varying levels of transparency.

The composition of the layering is crucial to the effect. Very few photographs are even suitable for this type of collage. The effect only ever becomes apparent at the very end.
