About ‘Red cowboy’ by Ruud van de Wiel

Together with my stylist, we built this artwork layer by layer. First the background, then the clothes and the red cowboy hat. He already looked very cool. To make more of an impression, I made him look very neutral. That's where this ideal shot suddenly emerged.

As a photographer, the first thing I look for is atmosphere, a setting to match and light. When all those elements come together, there is still a person and a person is alive. I don't take the photo alone, I always do it together with my models. And in this case also with my stylist.

This is one of my favourite images. There is humour and vibrancy in it. He already looks so grown-up, even though he was really only 15.
