On Mount Wellington, high above Hobart, the first morning of the new year 2020 awakens to an atmosphere that is both raw and overwhelmingly beautiful. The air is cold and clear, a fresh wind blows across the plateau and makes your skin tingle - an unmistakable feeling that perfectly suits this special date after a long New Year's Eve. Even before the sun reaches the horizon, a delicate red glow spreads across the sky. With each passing moment, the light becomes more intense until the entire summit seems to glow in warm red and orange tones.
The typical dolerite rock formations of Mount Wellington - striking, angular and almost sculptural - catch the light in a spectacular way. Their rough surfaces begin to glow, giving the plateau an almost otherworldly atmosphere. Low alpine plants grow between the rocks, defying the wind and completing the picture of the barren but beautiful summit.
Hobart spreads out below you, bathed in a soft dawn. The city lights are still twinkling as the day slowly dawns. The combination of frosty mountain air, the stillness of this moment and the fiery glow of the sky creates an unforgettable start to the new year - a powerful interplay of nature, light and vastness.
