This photo of a singing reed warbler was taken in the Groene Jonker in South Holland near Nieuwkoop and Noorden. It is a bird paradise combined with the Nieuwkoop lakes. They often spend the night in one, and forage in the other. In spring, they sing to find a mate and mark out areas. The photo shows exactly where to find them: in the reeds along the water's edge. If the wind is strong, they stay down, but otherwise they are easy to spot.
The photo was taken with a 400 mm lens.
Landscapes and townscapes are my favourite subjects. I search for beauty in the image; that can come from any of the compositional elements such as lines, shapes, rhythms, light/dark, colour combinations. For me a photograph is successful, when I can hang it on the wall.. Read more…
