The white water lily (Nymphaea alba) is a common aquatic plant with floating leaves. The white water lily grows in still and weakly flowing water with a depth of up to 1.5 m. It is reasonably resistant to water pollution. The leaves are more or less round and float on the water surface. They have a heart-shaped base. The petiole is round and has large air channels that conduct air to the rhizome. White water lilies have fragrant, white flowers 10-20 cm in diameter that float on the water surface. The single flowers stand alone on cylindrical flower stems. There are twenty to twenty-five pointed petals and four sepals. The sessile stigmas form an orange-yellow bud with eight to twenty-four stigma rays. The fruit, which ripens underwater, is usually shaped like a bottle, but is sometimes spherical. The seeds are dispersed by the water. The plant likes sun and usually flowers in the months of June to August.
