The history of the Rijswijk forest goes back centuries. The Huys ter Nieuburch was mentioned as early as 1602 and the Treaty of Rijswijk was signed here in 1697, ending the Nine Years' War. To commemorate this, Stadholder Willem V had the memorial niche built. This green enclave with a rich past is now the border between the old and new Rijswijk.
