river in spring in Zion National Park, America. The Zion National Park is a nature reserve in the United States. It became a National Monument in 1909, and a National Park in 1919. In 1937 the park was expanded with Kolob.
The name "Zion" was given to this park by Mormon pioneers in 1860. The Mormons, or "Latter-day Saints of Jesus Christ," are a religion located mainly in Utah. Derived from the biblical ?Zion?, this got the meaning of a place of peace and security for them. The name Kolob also comes from their writings; it means: the first creation, a place close to God. Around 2000 years ago "Anasazi" or old Pueblo people lived here, until about 800 years ago.
