River map of Europe – river basins, dark

by Sidney van den Boogaard

Europe without a single border or city, only its rivers, each basin in its own colour. The Danube is the largest field, in amber, running from the Black Forest to the Black Sea through ten countries. Around it the Rhine, the Elbe, the Vistula and the Dnieper sit like leaves on one branch, and in the Alps you can see the water leave for four seas. Scandinavia, Britain and Spain are fine mosaics of short, fast rivers. On the dark ground this gives a warm glow that catches the eye from across a room. The figure under the title is the length of all the rivers drawn, added up. A large map for a living room or office, and a gift for anyone who travels.

From the Rivers series: maps with nothing on them but water. Every line is a real river or stream, and the thicker the line, the larger the area it drains. A country draws itself, like a tree or the veins of a leaf. There are dark and light editions, to hang on their own or as a set.
